A Hundred Line Poem – Recounting the Life of the Most Noble of all Creation

by ‘Alee ibn ‘Alee ibn Muhammad ibn Abil-‘Izz al-Hanafee

This poem, composed by the 14th-century Islamic scholar ibn Abil-ʿIzz al-Hanafee, is a concise yet comprehensive poetic biography (Seerah) of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The work is notable for its brevity, encapsulating the key events and virtues of the Prophet’s life in just 100 lines of verse.

What you will learn:

The poem is organized chronologically, starting with the Prophet’s birth, and continuing through significant events in his life, such as the beginning of revelation, the Hijrah (migration to Medina), the major battles, and his passing.

The primary aim of the poem is to provide a succinct summary of the life of the Prophet (PBUH) that can be easily memorized and recited by students and scholars. It also serves as a spiritual reminder of the Prophet’s noble character and his central role in Islamic teachings.

Ayyuhal-Walad, translated as “Dear Beloved Son”, is a short letter of advice written by Imam Abu Hamid al-Ghazali to a nameless senior student, in response to a question about what is the most beneficial of all religious knowledge to have and act upon for the Hereafter, out of all the many things that scholars learn.

This Hadith Intensive offers an introductory study that introduces students to the essential and foundational concepts of hadith sciences, using widely recognized and esteemed texts. The course provides a general overview of hadith collections, aimed at helping students strengthen their faith, deepen their religious knowledge, and cultivate a greater love for the Beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). This is an ideal opportunity to either start or advance your journey in learning Hadith and understanding our prophetic traditions.

Subjects for Hadith

Al Bayquniyyah: Al-Bayquniyyah, also known as “Manzhūmah al-Bayquniyyah,” is a short didactic poem (manzūmah) composed by the scholar Imam ʿUmar ibn Muḥammad ibn Futūḥ al-Bayqūnī (d. 1080 AH/1669 CE). The poem is widely studied in the Islamic world, particularly by students of hadith sciences, as it provides a concise introduction to the terminology and principles of hadith classification.

The text consists of about 34 verses, and it covers essential concepts related to the study of hadith, such as the definition of different types of hadith (e.g., ṣaḥīḥ, ḍaʿīf, ḥasan, etc.), the criteria for accepting or rejecting hadith, and the various categories of hadith based on their chains of narration. Because of its brevity and clarity, Al-Bayquniyyah is often one of the first texts that students of hadith sciences memorize and study. It serves as a stepping stone for more advanced works in the field.

40 Hadith of Imam An Nawawi: The **40 Hadith of Imam An-Nawawi** is a famous collection of hadiths compiled by the renowned Islamic scholar Imam Yahya ibn Sharaf al-Nawawi (1233–1277 CE), who was a prominent Shafi’i jurist and hadith scholar. This collection is widely respected in the Islamic world for its concise yet comprehensive coverage of fundamental aspects of Islam.

The 40 Hadiths cover a wide range of topics, including faith, worship, morality, and social interactions, making them essential for understanding and practicing Islam. Each hadith in the collection is chosen for its importance in conveying key principles of the religion, and many of them are considered central to Islamic teachings.

  1. Intention (Niyyah): The importance of having sincere intentions in all actions.
  2. Islam, Iman, and Ihsan: The definition of these three pillars of faith.
  3. Obligations and Prohibitions: The hadiths cover essential acts of worship, ethical behavior, and prohibitions.
  4. Ethics and Morality: Guidelines for good character, honesty, patience, and dealing with others.
  5. Social Conduct: Advice on relationships, justice, mercy, and responsibility within the community.

What Is Arabic Intensive?

  1. Al-Ājrūmiyyah (الآجرومية) by Ibn Ajurrum (d. 1323 CE): This is one of the most famous introductory texts in Arabic grammar. It provides a concise overview of essential grammar rules, making it a popular starting point for beginners. It is widely memorized and studied in traditional Islamic education.
